Available in various outer diameters which vary by the size and amount of fiber to be fitted inside, common ends are different for glass and polymer fiber, with those for glass being larger. The part of the common end which plus into the illuminator is generally the industry standrd size of 30mm (1.2") diameter.
We also offer 12.5mm (0.49") and 14mm (0.55") diameter mini common ends which are particularly useful in display cases where it may not be possible to drill a hole large enough to take a full size 30mm (1.2") common end. These are generally plugged into a 30mm (1.2") diameter adaptor which is fitted into the illuminator.

Shown below is a typical common end used for PMMA fiber.
Commmon ends for glass fiber are manufactured from aluminum and anodised black, whereas the type used for PMMA fiber are raw aluminum. The 30mm (1.2") diameter section provides a snug fit in any standard 30mm (1.2") illuminator port.
Mini common ends are useful in situations, for example in museum display cases, where there is either not room, or it is not aesthetically pleasing to have a cutout made to allow a full size common end to pass through.
Availalble in two diameters; 12.5mm (0.49") and 14mm (0.55"), mini common ends are generally fitted to light tubes, bars and wands, but can also be used in other situations.
We can provide adaptors which allow mini common ends to be inserted into a standard illuminator port connector.
Available to take one, two or three 12.5mm (0.49"), or one or two 14mm (0.55") mini common ends, they have an outside diameter of 30mm (1.2") and are fitted with grub screws to secure the mini common ends in place.
The Ezefix termination system makes it quick and simple to terminate polymer optical fiber for lighting applications without the use of specialist equipment.
It consists of a range of port connectors for connection of the fiber to a illuminator and ferrule connectors to finish end lit fiber and allow attachment of end fittings.
While factory termination is always recommended for PMMA fiber and is necessary for glass fiber, this connector system will give adequate results where maximum light output or evenness are not required.
