The luxury London apartment is in the Royal Borough of Kensington, one of the most desirable districts in the capital. It was given royal status in 1901, and its famous gardens appear in the Peter Pan novels by JM Barrie. Add in fantastic museums and shops and the Royal Albert Hall for concerts, and it's clear this area is home to the very best London has to offer.
Leading lighting designers DesignPlusLight were commissioned to design a contemporary lighting scheme for the interior of this traditional residence, and approached UFO to illuminate the peaceful pool space. Our fiber optic lighting was chosen for its safety as well as creative features - with no heat or electricity in the end fittings, it's perfect for lighting wet and humid areas.
Working in partnership with the London-based lighting designer, we created a custom 10° wedge prism lens that was fitted to each of our pavers. This cast gorgeous vertical swathes of light across the walls around the pool area. The whole ambience in this minimalist space is wonderfully serene and relaxing.
The pavers were connected to strands of UFO end-lit glass fiber, and the system is powered by our Vega LED illuminator, stored in a safe, dry environment several feet away from the pool. The Vega's high light output makes it a more sustainable, more environmentally friendly power option for fiber optic lighting than traditional tungsten halogen or metal halide models. Other advantages include its small size and relatively noise-free operation.
