The iconic Madame Tussauds waxwork museum in the heart of London has always been an unmissable attraction for visitors to the capital - and now a collection of beloved Star Wars characters has made it even more exciting!
180 sculptors, prop makers, set designers and hair artists were involved in creating the new displays, which took more than a year to build. The 11 dramatic scene recreations include challenges such as a giant Jabba the Hutt, and an extremely hairy Chewbacca. The whole exhibition is highly immersive, and you're invited to walk into an alien world and experience it at close range.
Lighting plays a vital part in creating a dramatic atmosphere to excite visitors' imaginations and show the characters off to their best advantage. And we think UFO LEDs and fiber optics are the secret stars of the show!
When you enter the exhibit, you first board the Trade Federation landing ship, with huge metallic walkways with massive windows revealing a galaxy of twinkling stars created with a UFO Star Curtain. This bespoke curtain is woven with hundreds of tails of UFO mixed diameter end-lit fiber, giving the 3D effect of a night sky.
Next, stand well back as you encounter one of Star Wars' epic light saber battles - the Duel of the Fates between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul. This dramatic duel has an equally dramatic backdrop, in the shape of a massive light cylinder created by UFO, measuring 7m (23ft) in length. This epic installation incorporates over 1,600 tails of our decorative, cracked glass sideglow fiber, and is driven by the Sirius, our most powerful LED illuminator. The Sirius has a high light output of 5700lm at 5500K, giving the light cylinder a flickering presence to ramp up the sense of action.
Meanwhile, arch-enemies Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader are locked in battle in the Death Star Throne Room, against the fabulous theatrical backdrop of a UFO Star Curtain. The Star Curtain creates a dramatic night sky with glittering points of light, framed by large circular windows.
The fiber optics in both star curtains are powered by a UFO Luna LED illuminator with twinkle wheel, giving a realistic sparkling effect to the heat-free points of light. The two illuminators are installed in easily reached locations less than five feet from the star curtains.
