The award-winning Gleneagles Hotel is one of Scotland's most luxurious 5-star resorts. Best known for its golfing reputation and three legendary championship courses, it also plays host to a wide range of other sports, including fishing, shooting, horse-riding and swimming in the two indoor pools.
The hotel's ESPA spa is an award-winning luxury experience with Orient-inspired treatments and hydrotherapies, and elegant interiors that echo Gleneagles' Art Deco architecture.
We were delighted to be commissioned by multi-award-winning London company Lighting Design International to build a fiber optic lighting system to illuminate the textured glass panels in the spa. The lighting brief was to create an illusion of water running down a feature screen, for an atmosphere of calm and serenity.
To achieve this effect, our design engineers installed UFO stainless steel round paver fittings in the floor behind the textured glass. These pavers have internal domed lens with a clear glass front cover, providing greater light output, and casting the light further up the glass panels. To power the fiber optics, we used UFO 150 watt tungsten halogen illuminators. These were preferred to metal halide models, because they provide a warmer color temperature which suited the surroundings better.
This ingenious solution proved very effective and convincing. The effect of gently trickling water gives a wonderfully relaxed, tranquil feeling and enhances the overall experience of luxury for visitors to the spa.
